Three axis CNC machines generally fall into two separate categories. Some CNC machines are cnc routers while others are cnc mills. These two types of CNC machines are for very different purposes, and as a result of that, are designed and built differently.
The CNC Router Generally, CNC routers are used to cut soft materials such as wood, plastic and foam. Some CNC routers are even capable of cutting aluminum since it is a soft metal. Because cnc routers are used to cut soft materials, they are generally built fairly lightly. Don’t get me wrong, large CNC routers can easily weigh hundreds of pounds, but that is still fairly light. Because materials like wood often come in large sheets, many routers have a very large cutting surface such as 4x8 feet, and a fairly small Z axis, typically 2 to 12 inches. Because there is such a large travel area, routers typically have high cut and jog rates. For example, some Rico routers can jog at 60m/min. Because the cutting size and travel speed of CNC routers is usually high, there is one tradeoff. CNC routers are typically less accurate than CNC mills because soft materials usually don’t need to be machined precisely to the thousands of an inch. A CNC router may be equipped with either a router or a spindle to power your cutting tool.
The CNC Mill A CNC mill is an entirely different beast. CNC Mills are used to mill hard materials, ranging from aluminum to hardened steel or even titanium. CNC mills are often used to mill machine parts, and because of this requirement, CNC milling machines are very accurate. Generally, a CNC mill is accurate to a thousandth of an inch or better. To achieve this accuracy, CNC mills are often made with die cast iron or other extremely hard material which does not flex even under load. This makes CNC mills several times heavier than CNC routers. Because hard materials are cut much more slowly than soft materials, CNC mills have a much slower jog speed. Spindles are used instead of routers, since spindles are good at low RPM required for cutting metal. Because CNC mills are often used with a rotary indexer, many CNC mills have a large Z-axis. The cost of a CNC mill is certainly higher than that of a CNC router of equal size. In fact, CNC mills typically have a very small cutting area. To get anything past 2x2 feet could cost you tens of thousands of dollars.

CNC machining stands for “computer numerical control” machining. It is a relatively new process in the world of machining which allows for increased efficiency through higher levels of automation and by allowing the machine and it’s computer controls to do all the work. While CNC machines are expensive and complicated, they quickly pay for themselves by reducing the workload and preventing errors.
Advantages of CNC Machine: 1, It improves automation, removing the need of an operator for all but a few parts of the work. CNC machines can be left unattended for hours or even days if necessary, allowing operators to focus on other tasks. This also allows for a company to retain fewer operators, thereby saving on overhead. By removing the operator, safety is also increased. CNC machines can also work much faster than human machinists, since they are faster, stronger, and do not need to take breaks. 2, It produces an exact result every single time. Even the best human operator will have minor variations between finished results, whereas a CNC machine will produce exactly the same result each and every time it is run. All that is necessary is for a single program to be developed and placed into the machine. Then the machine can toil away at however many work pieces are needed, producing an exact replica down to thousandths of an inch each and every time. 3, The flexibility of the machine itself. While humans are much more flexible and trainable than machines, a CNC machine can be completely reprogrammed in a matter of hours to produce a completely different product. It is thus possible to refer back to old programs or install new programs when a different work piece is required. This gives CNC machines a big advantage over other machines, since they can quickly shift to producing a completely different product without the installation of many new parts or a major overhaul of key components. This also ensures that CNC machines can keep up with customer demand, since they can very quickly shift and produce a new product with minimal changes.

What is a CNC router? There are many different types of CNC machines but they are most distinguishable by the type and size of material they are designed to cut. CNC router is a computer controlled routing machine. Its tool paths can be controlled via computer numerical control. This machine is used to cut wood, plastic or metal and is generally used for routing out letters for signs, etc. Besides routing and signage, these machines can act as engraving machines, so you can get a lot of usage from one machine. A CNC router is very similar in concept to a CNC milling machine. In general, people refer a CNC milling machine to a metal cutting machine.
On the computer, use CAM software make the CAD drawing or design into a code called G-code. G code the standard language CNC machine can understand. In short, CNC router is not very complicated. It is a tool controlled by a computer. The software for the machine allows you to design patterns or to do signs, once you know the software, and learning the software is not difficult.
Many small fabricating stores, and even individuals are finding the accuracy and versatility of a CNC router very useful. A CNC router allows a worker to create many projects that would be very little time consuming and sometimes almost impossible to do otherwise. Cutting a complicated design into wood or even putting inlays into it are difficult for even the most skilled of carpenters, but with a CNC router, these are done easily and accurately. This makes CNC routers ideal for furniture making, crafts making.
The low power cnc router machines, typically for the home shop worker, only require 220 voltage and can therefore be run on household current. These machines can be equipped with 2 to 8 HP motors and are within the range of a hobbyist. A large machine with powerful spindle motor can make the cnc router working on stone, hard wood, and other hard materials.
Tips for how to choose the suitable CNC router machine Choosing the best suitable cnc machine involves researching if its specifications match the needs of the project, the amount of work it can handle and its maintenance requirements. So you must consider your company's needs, from budget to longevity to service and beyond.
Different demands, different machine configuration, and different cost. The best machine is the suitable machine. Take cnc router machine for example, below is the things we should take into consideration: 1, Consider what material to work on: acrylic, plastic, wood, stone, foam, steel, nonmetal materials and so on. 2, Working area of the cnc machine: according to you product size to choose the machine’s working area. For example if work on 4 x 8 feet panel, working area 1300 x 2500mm machine is suitable for use. 3, Control system of the machine: DSP handle control, NC Studio PCI computer control, Syntec, LNC, Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Fagor and so on. DSP control is easy to operate and good to new CNC users. Nc studio control work near to the machine, easy to edit programs. Syntec and other control system usually used with big cnc machine and multi-function cnc machine, had better operated by professional cnc operator. 4, Spindle type and power: air cooled or water cooled is optional, if most time in your country is very cold, suggest choose air cooled spindle, if you want the working environment very quiet, suggest choose water cooled. As to the power it depends on doing carving or cutting on what material. The thicker and the harder, the more powerful spindle needed. 5, Motor type: servo motor or stepper motor is optional; servo closed-loop vs. stepper open-loop, make servo motor have different control precision, low frequency characteristics, torque frequency, overload capacity, running performance, speed response performance, and servo motor is much expensive than stepper motor. Servo motor is usually used with big machine and high precision needed machine. 6, Working table type: vacuum suction table or clamp table is optional. Vacuum table hold the workpiece quickly and tightly, save time to fix the workpiece, but vacuum pump cost electricity power. Clamp table fix the workpiece by clamps manually. Usually vacuum table is used for mostly cutting, clamp table is used for mostly carving. Because carving needs more time, so clamp table save power and low the cost. 7, Rotary axis: cnc rotary 4th axis device is optional. If you also work on cylinder, round workpiece, you need to add rotary axis attachment to the machine. 8, Working voltage: 220V single phase, 220V 3phase, 380V 3phase, 415V 3phase and so on, you should make it sure. Ensure the cnc machine we sent is suitable for your use.

At last and the most important is choose a professional cnc machine provider with good after-sales service. Customer support should also be readily available in case any maintenance or technical issues arise in the future.
